Eurasian connectivity is strengthening through mature rail corridors, new long-haul air services and more sustainable airport infrastructure.


China–Europe rail has evolved into a trusted supply chain solution, while Cathay’s planned cargo and passenger flights will deepen links between East Asia and Kazakhstan. In Uzbekistan, airport carbon accreditation and a new Türkiye connection reflect continued progress in aviation capacity, sustainability and international reach.

China–Europe Rail Marked a Decade

China–Europe Railway Express celebrated ten years of expansion, reinforcing its role as a resilient overland trade corridor connecting China with Europe through Central Asia.


  • Annual train services increased from 1,702 in 2016 to 20,022 in 2025

  • The network now links 129 Chinese cities with 236 cities across 26 European countries

  • The Trans-Caspian route handled 85 rail-sea train services in Q1 2026, a 150% year-on-year increase, highlighting growing demand for the Middle Corridor



Cathay Expanded Kazakhstan Network

Hong Kong carrier Cathay finalized plans to launch direct cargo and passenger services ex Hong Kong to Kazakhstan, strengthening connectivity between East Asia and Central Asia.


  • Cathay Cargo will begin Hong Kong–Astana freighter services on 1 August 2026, operating up to five weekly flights using Boeing 747F aircraft

  • Cathay Pacific will launch Hong Kong–Almaty passenger flights in January 2027, operating three weekly flights with Airbus A330 aircraft

  • The new services further strengthen Kazakhstan's role as a growing aviation and logistics hub between Asia and Europe



Uzbekistan Joined Airport Carbon Program

Uzbekistan Airports introduced a nationwide carbon management framework by joining ACI's Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA) program.


  • Nine international airports joined the global carbon accreditation initiative

  • Tashkent International Airport entered directly at Level 2 (Reduction), while eight regional airports achieved Level 1 (Mapping)

  • The initiative supports sustainable airport development and strengthens environmental standards across Central Asia


SunExpress Plan Tashkent Service

Turkish carrier SunExpress plans to launch direct regular passenger flights ex Izmir, Türkiye to Tashkent, Uzbekistan on 1 August 2026.


  • The route will operate four times weekly

  • Flights will be performed using Boeing 737-800 aircraft

  • The new service will further expand air connectivity between Türkiye and Uzbekistan
