Background

Transporting live animals, especially endangered species like ring tail lemurs, is one of the most complex challenges in global logistics. It demands precise coordination, thorough understanding of international regulations, and strict adherence to IATA Live Animals Regulations and global animal welfare protocols.

CargoPoint was entrusted with transporting 14 lemurs from a wildlife farm in South Africa to Tashkent. The goal was to ensure a safe, stress-free journey across long distances and strict international regulations.

Challenge: Seamless Lemur Shipping Across Continents

The cargo involved live animals traveling from Johannesburg through Istanbul to Tashkent, covering a total distance of 10,798 kilometers. CargoPoint faced several key challenges along the way:

  1. Building special PMC Pallets (Code: PMC / P6P) that kept the lemurs safe, comfortable, well-hydrated, and at the right temperature

  2. Following strict international rules, including IATA Live Animal Regulations and customs procedures

  3. Coordinating with teams in multiple countries and airports to ensure smooth transit and stress-free journey for animals

  4. Ensuring compliance with quarantine rules and keeping animals in humane conditions throughout the supply chain

Solution: End-to-End Live Animals Logistics

CargoPoint’s highly trained, IATA-certified team managed every aspect of the shipment:

  1. May 5, 2025: A shipment of 14 lemurs left a specialized wildlife farm in Johannesburg, South Africa on a Turkish Airlines flight from O. R. Tambo International Airport (JNB), transported in custom-built, climate-controlled enclosures

  2. May 6, 2025: The animals arrived at Istanbul Airport (IST) in Istanbul, Turkey, for a brief layover. During transit, Turkish Airlines' dedicated specialists provided temperature-controlled care, hydration, and continuous monitoring, ensuring the live cargo was handled with the utmost safety and efficiency

  3. May 6, 2025: The shipment arrived in Tashkent, Uzbekistan at Tashkent International Airport (TAS) on Turkish Airlines and was received by our IATA LAR certified specialists
